Program Components

ACADEMIC COMPONENT

The following subjects are covered in the course of the program:

  • OVERVIEW (Program Expectations & the CCC Environment)
  • PLANNING (Getting Ready and Staying that Way!)
  • LEGAL (Mandates to Live By)
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT (Making It Happen!)
  • COLLEAGUES (Relationship Building for Success)
  • FINANCE (Resources to Execute)
  • LEADERSHIP (Leading the Way!) SEMINAR (Team Project Presentations)

MENTORING COMPONENT

  • Evaluate leadership style, skills, and abilities
  • Receive a review / critique of the participant’s resume
  • Receive assistance with program assignments
  • Receive networking assistance and general advice to address job challenges

CASE STUDY BASED

Each of the six academic modules (not including the Overview and the Final Seminar) requires the participant to individually analyze and complete a case study for discussion in class.

FINAL SEMINAR

Participants participate in teams to make a presentation regarding a dilemma proposed in a comprehensive case study

MEETINGS

  • Academic instruction is covered in three weekend sessions beginning Friday evenings and running through Sunday noon
  • Meetings also occur at two annual CISOA conferences (for the Overview and Final Seminar)
  • Four or more mentor meetings are scheduled between mentors and their mentees (participants)

FACULTY

The faculty is composed of:

  • Currently active Chief Information Systems Officers (CISOs) from the California Community Colleges
  • Domain experts in the fields appropriate to content covered in the academic modules

AWARDS

In addition to graduation certificates, participants can compete for Best Team Presentation (at the Final Seminar) and Honor Graduate.
