The CISOA Technology summit is the premier, annual conference for California Community College IT professionals.  CISOA in association with our partners,  California Community College Banner Group (3CBG), California Community Colleges Colleague Users Group (4CUG) and California Community College Amazon Web Services Users Group (CCC AWS),  present an outstanding array of educational conference sessions of interest to those who are part of the information technology arena in California’s Community College system. The conference is widely attended by CISOs, CIOs, CEOs, CTOs, VPs of technology and network systems, directors of IT, directors of technology, systems architects, network administrators, network security officers, ISOs, financial managers, financial aid staff, human resource staff, admissions, and student records staff, and software and web developers who work in the California Community College system.

What does the future look like? Is there one future, or are there alternative futures to consider?  How do you create your preferred future?  Come join Parminder to dispel the myths of futures thinking and learn how to tap into your futuristic mindset.  We all have a futuristic mindset, we just need to learn how to awaken that part of our brain. She’ll lead our journey into the future by sharing the laws of the future, principles that guide futures thinking, the role of signals, and you might even have a little fun along your futures journey.  If nothing else, you’ll walk away with a couple of futures tools you can use at your next meeting.

Dr. Parminder K. Jassal is the CEO of Unmudl Public Benefit Corp. and the Founder/CEO of She is also the Founder of the “Work + Learn Futures Lab” at the Institute for the Future in Palo Alto, California. Parminder investigates the future through three intersecting lenses: 1) the innovations of open economies; 2) changing role of people in their environments; and 3) the relationship between learning and work. Through new research and research-inspired prototyping, she applies insights from the fringes to promote positive culture shifts and solutions by getting ahead of inequities. She founded to support working learners by fostering social and economic agility through novel technologies and approaches. Through that work, a flagship product was born in Unmudl- a one-stop “Skills-to Jobs Marketplace” fueled by U.S. community colleges, which connects learners and employers. Unmudl features employer-validated courses and services to help learners build skills linked to real-world opportunities, and redeem them for credentials, ultimately leading to higher incomes.

Prior to her work at the Institute of the Future, Parminder was named Founding Executive Director of ACT Foundation in 2012. She oversaw the organization’s unique role as an operating foundation, strategic investor, and incubation partner in support of the New Learning Economy and Rise of Working Learners.

Parminder also previously served as a program officer supporting postsecondary success for low-income young adults at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. While at Gates, she helped design and scale a college-operating model titled “Pathways to Credentials and Careers” and led the “Learn and Earn” movement among employers and education providers.

Her drive is led by incredible experiences at Fortune 50 companies such as at Ford Motor Company, Atlantic Richfield Oil Company, and Lucent Technologies. And her entrepreneurial spirit began with co-founding start-ups like Technology Solutions and Consulting, Bombay House Restaurant, and East Indian Trading Cafe.

Born in London, Parminder graduated from high school in India and is a product of public higher education in the United States. Having lived in three countries, fluently speaking three languages, and having worked and served on boards across the globe, Parminder’s life itself reflects the world economy.

Today she’s working to make sure every American has the opportunity for excellent education and equitable work.

This 50-minute high-energy keynote will engage audience members in the important work of employee engagement and retention, with an emphasis on equity and inclusion. The keynote will introduce audience members to several data-driven frames on why diversity matters at work, followed by numerous, practical tools that every person can take back to their workplaces to foster inclusion and belonging. Dr. Vijay Pendakur serves as the inaugural Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at Zynga, Inc, where he offers diversity strategy and coordination for their global operations, spanning 3 continents. In addition to leading the diversity function, Vijay also leads university relations, corporate social responsibility, and learning & development at Zynga. Prior to this appointment, he led campus-wide crisis management and diversity efforts at Cornell University as the Robert W. and Elizabeth Staley Dean of Students and Presidential Advisor on Diversity and Equity. Before Cornell, Vijay served in leadership roles at universities across the country, with a consistent focus on student success and equity design strategy. As a scholar-practitioner, he has an extensive publishing record, including editing a book, and his research areas span leadership pedagogy, student success strategy, and higher education administration. Dr. Pendakur serves on the institute teaching faculty of the USC Race and Equity Center and as a faculty member for the “High Impact Practices Institute” through the American Association of Colleges and Universities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and East Asian studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, a master’s degree in U.S. history from the University of California, San Diego, and a doctorate in education from DePaul University.
